There are several ways to obtain the training to get an Alaska Food Worker Card.
- You can attend a hands-on training session with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. These 3 hour training and testing sessions are free of charge. Find out about the next training session by calling 1-877-233-3663 (1-87-SAFE-FOOD). This training is best if you learn by doing. It has more diagrams, pictures and examples of the food safety concepts we’re trying to teach.
- You may attend a class being held by an independent instructor. A list of instructors can be found at our website at: http://www.dec.state.ak.us/eh/fss/training/Food-Worker.html DEC does not advocate for these instructors. This list is provided as a courtesy. There is usually a charge for this training and testing.
- You may download the training booklet from DEC’s website and study for the test on your own. The materials can be found at: http://www.dec.state.ak.us/eh/fss/food_safety.htm Here you’ll also find a PowerPoint presentation as well as test taking instructions. These materials are best for a facility to use to train a larger group of people and administer the the scantron test.
