Following an explosion on April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig caught fire and sank. The blowout preventer failed to activate, resulting in an uncontrolled release of oil from the damaged wellhead. Efforts to control the release have not been successful and the spill continues to threaten the shores of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
We all have a stake in this disaster and in assisting the communities that are being impacted by the spill. We are also committed to ensuring that adequate response equipment and personnel remain to protect the environment, economy, cultural resources and quality of life here in Alaska.
This site has been established to provide information on how Alaska government agencies, Federal agencies with operations in Alaska and Alaska businesses are providing assistance to the Deepwater Horizon Response. |
