USCG Local Notice to Mariners
Oil spill response activities that impact navigable waterways may require the issuance of a Local Notice to Mariners (LNM). The LNM disseminates information concerning aids to navigation, hazards to navigation, and other information of interest to mariners in US waters. Information needed includes: reason for need for the broadcast; reason why it is needed; waterway affected; expected duration of operation; who do mariners contact to coordinate traffic schemes. To initiate an LNM in Alaska, contact the 17th Coast Guard District Command Center at (907) 463-2025. Existing LNM for Alaska may be viewed online at
http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/lnm/d17/
