Pig receiving module at 2M pad in Kuparuk, North Slope , Alaska

Product/Quantity

ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. estimates that 6 barrels of produced water was released. Two barrels remained inside the pig module, 3 barrels were released to gravel pad, and 1 barrel impacted tundra adjacent to the gravel pad. Produced water is a combination of water and crude oil.

Cause Failed O-ring on the pig receiver.
Time/Date of Spill The spill was discovered on 7/15/2004 at 5:00 PM. ConocoPhillips reported the spill to the Department’s after hours spill report line at 5:17 PM.
