Description |
|
Location |
The
fueling facility at the port site of the haul road at the Red Dog
Mine. Red Dog Mine is located approximately 90 miles north of Kotzebue. |
| Product/Quantity |
Nana-Lynden
reported that approximately 4,075 gallons of diesel was released.
An estimated 2,200 gallons was collected in fast tanks, and 1,875
gallons of diesel was spilled to the road. |
| Cause |
A
fuel truck was loading fuel at the port site, to be trucked to
the mine site. The truck is constructed with 3 compartments of
5,000 gallon iso-tanks. After the driver had completed filling
the last iso-tank with approximately 4,880 gallons of fuel, the
system shut off the fuel pump. The driver of the truck failed to
disconnect the fuel line from the truck, before driving off. The
line connected to the truck ripped the valve off from the truck.
All the fuel that was spilled was from the last compartment of
the iso-tank of the fuel truck, and not from the bulk fuel supply. |
