Certificate Renewal Policy for Small Untreated and Treated Water System Certificates Continuing education is required as a condition of renewal for small untreated and treated operator certificates. Continuing education used for renewal must be earned during the three years prior to certificate expiration. All small untreated and small treated water system certificates expire on December 31st of a specific year. CEU Timeframe: Note: The CEUs must be earned during the three years prior to the expiration of the certificate. Continuing Education Unit: The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) recognizes the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) as a unit of education. One CEU is equivalent to 10 contact hours of education. Board Policies 2009-07 The Governor’s Water/Wastewater Works Advisory Board Policy 2009-07 addresses continuing education for certificate renewal. Copies of this policy are available at http://www.dec.state.ak.us/water/opcert/policies.htm. Policy 2009-07 sets forth criteria for core CEUs required for certificate renewal. For small, untreated water system certificate renewals 0.5 drinking water core CEUs are required. For small, treated water system certificate renewals 1.0 drinking water core CEUs are required.
